Exclusive Album Premiere Of Doom/Stoner Rock/Hard Rock Collective LIE HEAVY Debut Album BURN TO THE MOON

LIE HEAVY brings together notable rockers, Karl Agell, JD Dennis, TR Gwynne and Graham Fry. You may know them from some of their musical forays with Corrosion of Conformity, Leadfoot,The Skull/Legions of Doom, Confessor, Patriarchs in Black, The Point, Deltoid and The Backsliders..

LIE HEAVY draws on the original hard 'n groovy jams of Sabbath, Mountain, Lizzy and Purple, fused with their own massive experience. So, it is not difficult to fathom why LIE HEAVY sounds like a well-oiled, hard working band of 30 years rather than a new entity. Their pedigree does not belie their power. Collectively, they have spent tens of thousands of hours in practice spaces, studios and on stages around the world, honing their vast skills, to find one another in this moment being among the top guardian practitioners at the gates of transcendently HEAVY music.

Thanks to the cool folks over at Purple Sage PR and Heavy Psych Sounds, you can listen to the new album Burn To The Moon below with this exclusive album premiere.

Debut album "Burn To The Moon" is out April 19th on Heavy Psych Sounds

Party doom riff merchants GURT return with new album 'Satan ETC' & share new single

It's been five long years since "party doom" riff merchants GURT released their last crushing opus "Bongs of Praise", now on June 7th 2024 they are set to return with their latest, crushing-ist opus yet, "Satan Etc".

A lot has happened in the band members lives since 2019, some suffered tragic losses, some welcomed new life into the world, some grew awesome skullets. Not to mention that global event in 2020 that kept us all inside.

Left to ferment in frustrating circumstances has led to the new material being more aggressive and abrasive than previous offerings, whilst still retaining that signature GURT silliness and swagger.

In January 2024 GURT took these new songs into the mighty Monolith Studios in London and under the watchful eye of Steve Sears, they birthed the magnificent, monstrous "Satan Etc". This album marks GURT's 5th collaboration with Sears, who always coaxes the best out of the band with a healthy mixture of positive support and scathing insults.

When asked about the influences and inspiration behind this album vocalist Gareth Kelly states "it's about survival in the very fucked up world we live in, but of course delivered in the bands tongue in cheek style".Drummer Bill Jacobs says " we wanted shorter punchier songs to go with the new aggro vibe, nothing to do with us being older and fatter" whilst bassist David "Spicy" Blakemore enigmatically adds "I've been listening to lots of Slavic hardcore!".

Delving into varied topics, from bodged vasectomies to the beauty of brown cars, from self pleasure on Arrakis to the wholesome matter of how damn much Gareth loves his kids, "Satan Etc" is the sound of the band ready to get back to doing what they love most: having a great big sludgy party with their rabid fans. PARTY DOOM HAS EVOLVED

On first single ’Knife Fever’, vocalist Gareth Kelly comments,

“This song is simply about the sheer incompetence of the geriatric surgeon that operated on me, and best of all it was a fucking vasectomy! Simply harrowing, so much so, I wrote him a love letter in this song!”

Review

Dapple Patterns is the new album from Hong Kong based Instrumental Post-Rock collective Virgin Vacation with the band focusing on various levels of Experimental sounds that ventures through areas of Cosmic Rock, Psych Rock, KrautRock, Jazz. Surf and Ambient Rock. The sound is a tapestry of magical Post-Rock expressions which are quite flamboyant and wickedly over the top but never boring.

The whole album is wonderfully weird with Virgin Vacation clever use of Feedback loops, distorted guitars, electronic beats and the multitude of different instruments that the band used within the whole album. Virgin Vacation feel stuck in a never-ending time warp with their music inspired by multiple eras of music ranging all the way back from the 1950’s upto the present day.

There is a certain “KITSCH” and free-flowing film soundtrack element which would make Quentin Taraninto blush with envy when the throwback Jazz/Pop/Rock energy of tracks such as Yellow Scissors, Ghost and Red allowing the band to have a deep meaningful creative energy which allows them to wholly original within the Post-Rock field.

There’s a lot to take in with this album as Virgin Vacation march to the mood of their own beat. However, there’s an epic distorted Cosmic Rock sound that leads the band to heavier areas of music which stay firmly in the background.

Other standout tracks include: Jupiter, Dapple Pattern II, Forest, and Dapple Pattern II which sees the band become more dramatic and focusing more on Ambient sounds with the dub-step grooves not feeling out of place from an Anime Series or Anime Movie.

Though, it’s the little sonic sounds, glitches and beats which impressed me the most. As Virgin Vacation explored into realms of Post-Rock that I didn’t think were possible or would go together. Surf, Dubstep and Jazz are not normally associated with Post-Rock but the band pull this off with magnificent style within the forty minute runtime of Dapple Patterns.

Dapple Patterns is full of cinematic wonder and a fearless creative direction which will leave you breathless. The musicians who make up Virgin Vacation are brilliantly talented and they prove this time and time again throughout the whole album.

Though, the record won’t be for everyone. You may have to fully appreciate the Avant-Garde attitude of Virgin Vacation’s music. However, folks willing to take the journey with the band will be rewarded with a breathtaking Post-Rock album unlike you’ve ever heard before.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Yellowknife's GNARWHAL Look Inwards With Provocative Title Track From Upcoming EP “Altered States” Out May 2024

Gnarwhal, the genre-bending rock phenomenon hailing from the remote northern Canadian city of Yellowknife, continues to captivate audiences with the release of their latest single, the title track from their upcoming album “Altered States”. The single is out now and the remainder of the fuzzy, doomy album is being released on May 24, 2024. The emotionally charged track offers a profound exploration of resilience and memory, weaving together intricate melodies and haunting lyrics that resonate with listeners on a deep and personal level. The band comments on the creation of the track:

“Altered States is interesting because when we went into the studio we hadn’t even fleshed the song out and it wasn’t near complete. Mark hadn’t finalized the vocal melody or lyrics and structurally the song wasn’t making a lot of sense. We were actually a bit tentative about including this in our studio time and having it on the EP. It was the last song we tracked. Once Layne laid down the drum tracks and we started working on bass and guitar, we knew we were onto something a bit different and cool.”

“Altered States” delves into themes of personal transformation and the enduring power of memory. The track serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of embracing our past experiences, even as we navigate the uncertainties of the present. The upcoming EP promises to deliver a diverse and introspective musical journey in which the band artfully navigates the realms of heavy alternative fuzz rock and progressive metal, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.

Powerful and personal, the single “Altered States” invites the listener to look inward. It is recommended for fans of Kyuss, Mastodon, and Elder.

Review

Old Painless are from Manchester, UK and play a great style of Desert/Stoner Rock with the right level of Metal aggression that allows their Fuzzed Up Sound to combine for a damn cool time which sees moments of Classic Rock, Punk Rock and Garage Rock starting to emerge throughout their debut release Demo Songs.

With the word “Demo” in the title, the EP does have a raw-sounding background with a proper DIY flavour to the EP. The songs are quite melodic with Dave’s vocals coming from the old school of Punk Rock/Stoner Rock.

The four tracks on the record sees Old Painless continuously impress even further with their music becoming more adventurous especially on tracks such as Fleetfooted Man Killer, Just Another Case Of Bad Luck and Rusty Hammer. The whole sound becomes more metallic along the way with Old Painless starting to bring a Thrashier sound to the record.

There’s a lot of very cool instrumental sounds and muscular vocals from Dave. The band aren’t reinventing the wheel but their promise and huge potential shines throughout and with a better produced release then Old Painless could be on the right track making a name for themselves within the UK Stoner Rock scene.

Overall, Demo Songs is an action-packed release with heavy grooves and movements influenced by bands such as Orange Goblin, Clutch and Valiant Thorr that will no doubt allow the band to gain some followers along the way.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

SKIRMISH" + "MY ONLY LINK" IS THE NEW DOUBLE SINGLE BY PSYCH ROCKERS MARAGDA FROM UPCOMING NEW ALBUM TYRANTS

The second album by the Barcelona-based band Maragda will be titled 'Tyrants' and will be released on May 8, 2024, via Spinda Records - pre-orders are now available.

After teasing the title track last month, today they unveil a double single comprising the songs "Skirmish" and "My only link", presenting them in both studio and live versions, with the latter extracted from the live session they recently recorded at Siete Barbas Estudios.

Melodies, atmospheres, compositions of great complexity, and a garage attitude are the main components of 'Tyrants'.

All of this unfolds in a hypothetical fantasy universe, where psychedelia and progressive rock continuously merge, adding nuances of other styles like garage.

For the creation of the album "Tyrants", Maragda embarked on a creative journey that took them to the Big Snuff Studios in Berlin, where they collaborated with studio engineer Richard Behrens, renowned for his work with bands like Kadavar and Elder. Subsequently, the mastering was handled by acclaimed engineer Peter Deimel (known for his work with bands like Motorpsycho) at the Black Box Studios in France, solidifying a successful collaboration that began with their debut album.

In the visual department, the band has once again partnered with Error! Design studio (known for works with Explosions In The Sky, Russian Circles, Mastodon) for the album's graphic design, ensuring a cohesive and captivating aesthetic experience for their followers.

Noise/Doom/Stoner Rockers ZOLLE Premiere New Song FIOCCO From Upcoming New Album ROSA

Zolle return with an album where the heavy parts are lovingly heavier and the melodic parts are monstrously more melodic than in the past. Imagine Crowbar, on a diet, singing The Ramones refrains at an AC/DC show with Metallica as an opening act.

ROSA is the Italian word for PINK but it also means ROSE, the flower. ROSA tells, in a universal language, of different elements united by belonging:PINK, as artwork and titles suggest.

Recorded and mixed by Giulio Ragno Favero (Zu, Teatro degli Orrori, OvO) in December 2023 At Macina Studio in Camposampiero (Pd) and mastered by Giovanni Versari (Muse, Verdena) at la Maestà Studio.

ROSA is released by Subsound Records. The Artwork is from Berlikete and Eeviac.

Zolle are an incisive, unconventional rock duo, featured by playful voices and melodies, powerful guitar riffs and super energetic drums. ROSA is conceived in the countryside close to the Po river.

ZOLLE finds their maximum expression playing live:smiling approach, guaranteed vibration.

Stefano and Marcello have been playing together since the last century, since 1995,they come from MoRkObOt, Viscera/// and Klown (and beyond). Enjoy!

You can listen to the new track FIOCCO from the upcoming new album Rosa due out on May 3rd 2024 via Subsound Records
